Alexandra Velasco is an award-winning writer/director and multimedia artist from Mexico City, now in Los Angeles. Her surreal, magical realism blends visual art with bold avant-garde films featuring outsiders confronting guilt and redemption.
Her work has been showcased in museums and festivals globally, featured in Vogue, Elle, i-D, and IndieWire.
Her narrative film "The First of The Free Girls" won Best Narrative Short, Jury Selection, and Best Cinematography. She and her co-director were nominated for Best New Artist at the Berlin Fashion Film Festival.
Alexandra has directed music videos and visuals for indie artists and served as director of branded content for Sunstock Solar Festival. She is one of nine female directors in Blackmagic Collective’s “Future Directors of Studio Features” Initiative for 2021 and is part of Alma Har’el’s Free The Work network.
Alexandra is committed to affordable, non-hierarchical art education and serves on the Advisory Committee at the School of the Alternative in North Carolina, where she leads an experimental film workshop. Her goal is to create art that mirrors experiences, helping others believe in magic and connect with their emotions and inner minds.
Her short “The Seventh Circle” is streaming on NoBudge. “Eternal Inferno” a proof of concept for a sexy arthouse vampire film set in Mexico City's underground scene is currently about to start its festival run.
